Postcard: Paris Metro
8 November, 2011I’m restarting my fun photography category and re-christening it as the postcards category. This one is the subway shelters in Paris. This style is common enough and are really cool. I love the Art Nouveau style. This one was Abbesses on Montmarte.

I think the Metropolitain entrances in Paris are the most beautiful in the world!

Those are designed by Hector Guimard. He was a prolific architect in the lower 16th arrondissement of Paris (where I live) and if you like Art Nouveau I suggest visiting next time you’re in Paris, if you haven’t done so already.
He also designed some tombstones in Pere Lachaise cemetery. You can see a list of his buildings on my blog if you’re interested

Cool, thanks for the name. I really like them and the Metro underground too. We stayed near the catacombs, no clue what arrondissement that is. I will check out your blog. I love art nouveau, although most of what I have seen before is Jugendstil from Vienna.
Been to Paris a couple of times and these old Metro signs always fascinate me every time I see them.

Yeah, I love the art from that time period, so these are cool. I have a few other pictures around here of the style that will slowly filter onto the blog eventually.
These metro stations are just one example of what I love most about Europe– the way that everyday, utilitarian things are made to be lovely.
P.S. Thanks for your kind comment on my blog, and the good movie suggestion– I enjoyed it!
Of course. I am glad you enjoyed the movie and that you are feeling better(?).
Paris seems to do the lovely-utilitarian better than most places.
