Postcards
Posts of a photo from my piles of unsorted pictures of some oddity or interesting thing. There is no deep topic, just fun.
Links of the WeekI also try to highlight several of my fellow bloggers both in the expat/travel realm and outside. Please post a comment of a link or your own post that you would like me to consider highlighting here.
Creepy Santa And His Deformed Reindeer, Auckland
In general the Christmas decorations were not overwhelming in New Zealand. Very understated in most places, except for this guy. He stayed up past New Years and we called him Creepy Santa for navigational purposes. I am always on the lookout for oddities and unusual things when I travel. This certainly qualifies.
Glowing Beer
Today’s Postcard is a back-lit beer glass. Tables here always have candles on them that are lit in the evenings. As the waitress handed me this glass of weizen, I noticed how the candlelight shown through the beer. Ganter is the local large brewery in Freiburg.
Postcard: Kebap in Feldkirch
Ali and I walked around Feldkirch after talking to the tourist board and headed up to the castle there. In walking around we ran across this kebab store. With a bit of a juvenile mind this is really funny. I wonder what is in the special sauce.
Winter Beer: Wodan
It never occurred to me that there are standard all-year beers and there are seasonal beers. A normal beer is something that might be brewed and sold the entire year. Then per season there are special beers only available for a short time. The seasons seem to be different per brewery, but winter, summer and Oktoberfest are heavily represented.
Postcard: Soup of the Day
Ali and I took a trip back up to my home town when we got married. One weekend at home in nearly four years. We went walking down the street in Chapel Hill, which was my high school haunt. Saw this sign on our way.
Postcard: Paris Metro
I’m restarting my fun photography category and re-christening it as the postcards category. This one is the famous subway shelters in Paris. They are common enough and are really cool. I love the Art Nouveau style. This one was Abbesses on Montmarte.
Twilight Icecream in Italy
Twilight ice-cream seen in italy.
