Steam Engine on an Island : Kingston Flyer

I never expected to see a steam train in New Zealand. I knew they had the modern scenic trains, but I don’t think of the county as train heavy. However a lot of the land was settled and opened up in the age of steam, trains were definitely a part of the landscape. As a part of our bus ride to Milford Sound we stopped at Kingston, the other end of Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown King and Queen, huh?). There we saw the restored Kingston Flyer.

In Germany

Living in a Culture of Public Transportation

Public transport is one of the biggest differences between where I live now in Germany and where I came from in the US. I have not driven a car in just under 4 years. It isn’t like there are not cars here or it wouldn’t occasionally be nice to have one, but Germany is more of a culture of public transport. What does this mean to daily life?

What do you eat on travel days?

I make no great secret that when I get hungry I am not as nice a person to be around. Travel days just have this all set up. Early waking up means maybe missing breakfast. Always on the run means eating fast food or whatever looks good at the bakery. Sometimes.. horror.. you even miss meals all together.

Dealing with Fear through Travel

Grand admission. I have fears. Lots of them in fact. Enough to have dealt with panic attacks twice for months at a time in my life.  The one thing I am not afraid of is Travel.  Really. I had less issues moving half-way around the world to a country where I had no job or [...]
