Remembered Trips
There was a time before… before the internet.. before digital cameras.. but mostly before I started blogging. Being a blogger has changed how I see things and also how many pictures I take. These are stories of trips that I took as I was building my passion to travel. Details may be fuzzy and stories may be exaggerated, but it is all good fun.
7 Beers And A Washing Machine
I like German beer. It is orderly and made to strict standards. That in itself is a commentary on the culture. Though I find that after a while I get bored with German style beer and crave the microbreweries and weird flavors from home. Thankfully we travel enough outside of Germany and I get to try other beers. Here are some of my favorites from around the world (really just the ones I have pictures of).
Feldberg – Top of the Black Forest
Feldberg is the tallest mountain the Black Forest, and only an hour and fifteen minutes from Freiburg. It is also a well known local ski area. There are buses from Titisee as well as from Feldberg-Bärental train statoin, the highest in Germany. Years ago as a student, I braved the frosty January air to climb the mountain. I am not a skier, so this was more like snow hiking. I like trains and wanted to see the highest station, so that is the route I took.
The Best Gifts are Memories
I am not sure if this is a coined phrase yet or not, if not then I claim it. “The best gifts are memories.” This is true of the physical stuff as well as the experiential stuff. A cold gift has no memories attached. A meaningful gift is one where someone knows you well enough to give something that taps into your happy memories, often together. Travel is often about shared memories and any trinkets I bring home remind me of that trip and the cool things I did and saw. Even a physical gift when endowed with memories is a great gift.
